Accountancy fees? Just another expense driving your profits down?

No, not at all. Not if you are working with the RIGHT type of accountant.

Traditional accountants have been very compliance driven i.e. getting your annual accounts submitted, corporation tax calculated, payroll etc. Basically making sure HMRC is happy. Whilst this is all important, they have no real impact on your business decisions and therefore not valued by many business owners.

So how do you know you are working with the RIGHT accountant that helps you keep more cash in the business, provides strategic analysis for decision making and acts as a business partner rather than an external party?

Here are few things your accountant should be doing to aid building a more successful agency:

  • Your accountant should ask and understand your goals so that they provide you with the resources to get there

  • They should be fully digital and utilise technology so that you aren’t spending precious time manually getting information to them, and instead, using that time to work on your agency

  • They should be an expert in your industry. That way, you know they are the best at what they do as a trusted advisor

  • They should conduct tax planning exercises such as optimum salary/dividends, R&D claims, trivial benefits, spouse shares, pension schemes and personal tax review of the directors.

  • They should know the industry specific tax incentives you can benefit from i.e. R&D tax credits, Animation tax relief (ATR), Grants etc.

  • They should analyse key trends for your business to identify any opportunities and potential threats so that you don’t miss vital signs that could drastically impact your bottom line numbers.

At SKO, we treat all our clients uniquely and take time to analyse how they operate so we can get them the best results possible. For example, we recently took on a new client and by month 5 of working together, we were able to save them 5 times more tax than the fees they were paying us!
